GO! 2025 to celebrate heritage and innovation

The western city of Nova Gorica and its Italian neighbour Gorizia will host about 400 official events as they merge into the first cross-border European Capital of Culture next year. There will be four highlights, including a Walk for Europe that will bring together cities across Europe.

The city of Nova Gorica and its Italian neighbour Gorizia are counting down to the 2025 European Capital of Culture (ECOC) when they will host more than one event per day on average. Head of programme Stojan Pelko says most of the events will be admission-free.

The Nova Gorica railway station, located just meters from the Slovenian-Italian border, will get a makeover along with nearby buildings to serve as one of the main venues as the city and its Italian counterpart Gorizia host the European Capital of Culture in 2025.

European Capital of Culture 2025 to open on 8 February

The opening ceremony for the European Capital of Culture hosted by the Slovenian border city of Nova Gorica and its Italian counterpart Gorizia will be held on Slovenian Culture Day on 8 February 2025.
The date was announced exactly two years ahead of the opening ceremony by Culture Minister Asta V
